Katrina victims with disabilities have needs beyond food, shelter and emergency medical care. They need wheelchairs, walking canes, shower chairs, transfer benches, canes and shades for individuals who are blind. They need personal care items such as Depends and other personal care items for urinary and bladder control.

Self Reliance, Center for Independent Living is asking for medical suppliers, individuals and corporations to join in the effort to get equipment and supplies to people with disabilities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The following list of items is needed for Katrina victims with disabilities!

Shower chairs and benches
Transfer boards
Canes for the blind and visually impaired
Sunglass type shades for the blind and visually impaired
Adult diapers and Depends
Bladder control pads for men and women
Chux
Bedside Commodes

Hoyer Lifts

Reachers
Crutches
New and used batteries for hearing aids
New batteries for people with Cochlear implants

Warehouse Space
Trucks & Drivers
Volunteers to organize and load the items onto trucks

Our goal is to obtain the requested items and have them delivered by truck to the Centers for Independent Living and shelters in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. There is a desperate need for warehouse space to receive the equipment and supplies and for trucks and drivers to deliver the items. If you have warehouse space in the Tampa area that can be utilized for the procurement of the equipment please contact us. We also need trucks and drivers to transport the items.
