Hurricane KatrinaSTATE OF VERMONT RELIEF INITIATIVE
ALL EVACUEES SHOULD REGISTER WITH FEMA & LOCAL RED CROSS
Vermont’s Emergency Management Agency is urging all people who have arrived here from the hurricane-stricken Gulf Coast to register with FEMA and contact any of the three local chapters of the American Red Cross, even if they do not need immediate assistance. Anyone who has been displaced by Hurricane Katrina will be eligible for federal assistance, but only if they are registered with FEMA. People can register with FEMA by calling their local chapter of the Red Cross numbers below, or by calling FEMA at 800-621-FEMA (3362) – or – TTY 800-462-7585 (speech and hearing impaired) or registering online at http://www.fema.gov/register.shtm.
Local Chapters of the Red Cross:
* Southern Vermont Red Cross: 800-288-3554
* Central Vermont Red Cross: 802-773-9159
* Northern Vermont Red Cross 800-660-9130
“We’ve received reports of evacuees with second homes or other resources relocating to Vermont,” said Neale Lunderville, Secretary of Civil and Military Affairs. “Although these individuals may not need immediate assistance, they should still register with FEMA and one of the local Red Cross chapters so we know where they are and so they can protect their eligibility for future federal assistance.”
